Mother's Day Cards II

After completing my first batch of Mother's Day cards I decided to make two more cards for the Grandmothers in my family. I was running out of time, so this was just a quick project that I put together. Here was the final product:

A simple and colorful card for a Grandmother who loves birds.

I have recently been trying to expand my technical knowledge when it comes to stamping, embossing, and card making. I have been watching lots of videos and tutorials. My current favorite person to watch is Jennifer McGuire as she always produces beautiful cards and I learn so many neat tips and techniques from watch her videos.

With Mother's Day rapidly approaching I needed to make two cards and I wanted to attempt some new skills at the same time. Here are the two cards I finished with:

Stamp, pearlescent watercolors, and another card.

It was requested that I make an upbeat thinking of you type card for someone who has been feeling down. So, I tried to make a colorful card that wasn't too over the top.

I started with the background stamp called dots and daisies by Stampin Up. It is another one of my favorite stamps that I recently received from my friend.

I inked up the stamp using Staz-On because it is a solvent based ink and I wanted to prevent the watercolors from making the ink run. I found the best way to stamp large stamps is to lay the card on the stamp and press the card onto the stamp. It seems a little backwards, but this way I know I won't miss a part of the card.

Next, I used some pearlescent watercolor to color in the daisies. I also stamped a heart using Staz-On and watercolored the image as well to use on the inside of the card.

I let it sit overnight while the paint dried. If you are in a rush, you can use a heat gun to speed up the process. Just be careful, sometimes using a heat gun causes the watercolors to have a different effect than drying naturally.

This is the card after drying overnight. I am quite happy with the result.

Now, it's time to put everything together. I hand cut out the heart and the backing and attached it to the card. Then I stamped my sentiment on the inside.

I kept the inside simple while leaving some room for a signature.

Finally, don't forget the envelope. I thought a couple hearts would be simple and I used some copic markers to keep drying times fast.

Almost awesome. Stupid glob of yellow.

Everything is complete. A rather simple, colorful, but thoughtful card. I like how it turned out. I am working on going outside of my comfort zone and watercolors are definitely a bit scary for me.

Heat Embossing on a Card

I knew I would be back soon with another card. I wanted to make a thank you card for my friend using some of my new stamps. If you wanted to create something similar the list of stamps and inks used will be at the bottom of this post.
